E3 2019 for Square Enix: The Good, Bad, and Ugly

 Jul 23, 2024

Every few years, Square Enix puts on a great spectacle at E3, and this year was no exception.

It turns out that SE can succeed by just showcasing Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and other JRPGs. When will the revelation of Marvel's Avengers also occur? Wonderful.

The Square Enix E3 display included both positive and negative aspects, but nothing really unpleasant to look at.

The Virtuous

Remake of Final Fantasy VII

Even if I don't think much of Final Fantasy VII, I would be lying if I claimed that this remake didn't look fantastic.

Characters may move and strike freely during real-time conflicts, as seen in a recent teaser. But the creators thought it appropriate to include the ATB gauge, which gradually increases and fills to provide access to more potent spells and assaults.

Players will be able to approach combat strategically by incorporating both, which will come in handy when facing bosses. If the monsters in Final Fantasy VII Remake are any indication, players will need to exploit flaws, weak places, and placement in order to prevail. This is especially true with the Guard Scorpion fight.

Oh, and we finally got to see Tifa and Sephiroth in action, and they both look very good.

On March 3, 2020, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be available on the PlayStation 4.

Builders of Dragon Quest 2Dragon Quest Builders 2 at last!

The player goes on a multi-island adventure in a game that blends aspects from the main Dragon Quest series with Minecraft. Their mission is to destroy an evil cult that has seized the builders and forbade them from constructing or cooking.

To that aim, players will naturally have access to a variety of additional capabilities, including rapid transit, cooperative play, underwater and aerial transport, and flight. It also has improved combat and buildable automobiles.

It offers more action, more construction, and of course, more fun—more of everything a fan could ask for.

On July 12, 2019, Dragon Quest Builders 2 will be available on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Romantizing with SaGa

Sincerely, how many of you can recall Romancing? Was it anticipated that SaGa 3 and SaGa Scarlet Grace would make their way to the West?

Hell, if you completely forgot it existed, you wouldn't even be held accountable.

Thankfully, it seems that Square Enix did not overlook either detail, confirming the existence and impending release in the West of SaGa 3 and Scarlet Grace.

Although it is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices, the precise release date is yet unknown.

Remastered Final Fantasy 8

It may surprise you to learn that this news surprised us in two ways.

To begin with, Square Enix chose to adapt Final Fantasy 8 to contemporary platforms since they didn't forget that the game existed.

Second, it will be available in 2019 for the PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Strange planet.

Marvel's Avengers

The Avengers are prepared to unite in front of the whole world after an eternity of waiting.

Though the details of the gameplay are still scarce, we do know that the game will take place five years after A-Day, which was supposed to be a day of celebration marking the opening of the Avenger's West Coast Headquarters but turned tragic when their ship was hijacked and destroyed, killing thousands of people in the surrounding area. It was their worst mistake, and the Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, and Thor became criminals at that very moment.

That being said, the five will have to put their once-disbanded squad back together to face a new danger that has emerged while they have been away.

This is a unique plot, as you may have noticed, but there will be memorable scenes from the wider movie world. Although the creator Crystal Dynamics claimed that all of the DLC will be free, a significant portion of this world would consist of it.

On May 15, 2020, Marvel's Avengers will launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Players who pre-order will get access to a PS4 beta.

The Negative

Hearts of Heaven 3 Re:Mind

One of the most anticipated Kingdom Hearts games has turned into the most contentious in the series, and Square Enix is making every effort to put things back together.

Critical Mode was the first effort, while is the name of the DLC that is the second.Re:Mind.

Although there isn't much information available at this moment, it is certain that it will have playable Aqua, Roxas, and Riku in addition to Sora's new transformation, Oathkeeper. Additionally, based on director Tetsuya Nomura's comments, there will be additional material added, including an additional boss.

While the effort is commendable, a lot of what made Kingdom Hearts 3 Many found it unsatisfactory as there were issues with the main game that a DLC couldn't resolve.

Is there a fix for Kingdom Hearts 3? This winter will have to pass before we find out.

End of the World 2

thrice shown, twice burnt.

After being shown during Microsoft's press conference, one would think that a follow-up will provide further details or gameplay.

Nope! This time, the only things we saw were snippets from the first trailer and some from the most recent one.

There are several interesting things going on, including the player's ongoing need to monitor the extent of their infection or the way UV may be used to prevent people from converting. Wouldn't it be beneficial, however, to showcase real gaming at one of the presentations?

The Ugly

Nothing! The way it was presented was exquisite. However, based on Square Enix's recent performance, the showcase for 2019 might be a complete bust.

Conclusion

The good, terrible, and ugly of Square Enix's E3 show are all that is to be said. Which aspects of the event were your favorites and least favorites? Do you believe Square Enix performed admirably in general? Post your ideas in the comments section below.
