Legend of Elden Ring: Who Is Godrick? Final Boss, Demigod, and Weaknesses

 Jul 24, 2024
Elden Ring's exploration extends beyond hidden regions and secret objects, much like many of FromSoftware's past products. Comprehending the game's backstory may be an experience in and of itself for a lot of gamers. The backstory of early enemies like Godrick the Grafted may be a little enigmatic and unfathomable. Even having his Great Rune in their possession, defeating this formidable monster may leave some players perplexed as to who he is. How does Godrick fit into the legend of Elden Ring, and who is he exactly?

Knowing the Elden Ring: Who is Godrick the Grafted?

One of the Lands Between's demigods, Godrick is in charge of Limgrave. As the toughest obstacle players will face till then—assuming they didn't skip him entirely beforehand—he is formally the "final boss" of this section. He is vulnerable to physical assaults and the majority of status ailments, excluding death blight and insanity. His whole moveset is not like as spectacular or lethal as that of any other shardbearer; instead, his motions are usually fairly plodding and telegraphed. Even though he is the least powerful demigod, Godrick nevertheless presents a formidable challenge to those who are unprepared for it.

Godrick's backstory is less complicated than that of many other Elden Ring characters, yet there are still a lot of mysteries to solve. Before being chased out of the city, he, like many other demigods, seized a portion of the Elden Ring for himself. Before departing, he carried a great deal of wealth, among them the Mimic's Veil, which is found in his castle. An inscription on a headstone in Limgrave describes how Godrick was subdued by Malenia during the Shattering. This fight is mentioned by the NPC Kenneth Haight, along with other incidents like Godrick hiding in Stormveil Castle from Radahn and among the ladies who are leaving the capital.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact moment Godrick developed his grafting addiction, although it probably occurred after he left the city. The throne he now governs over in Stormveil is far larger than the one he left behind in Leyndell. He nearly appears to have a link with the different limbs he had amputated upon himself while confronting him. Godrick respectfully converses with the slain dragon in his arena, pleading with it for strength. It's interesting to note that Godrick is not the first entity in the Lands Between to execute grafting; Godefroy the Grafted, a secret boss located within an evergaol, has a similar look to Godrick. Godefroy and Godrick may not have a relationship, but their striking resemblance suggests that Godrick may have borrowed the concept of grafting from Godefroy.

Godrick is preoccupied with much more than just grafting. He is very respectful of his ancestors, particularly the first Elden Lord, Godfrey. Godrick's lineage is eventually shown to be significantly diluted, which significantly lessens the impact of his demigod status in comparison to his siblings. Because he is unable to defeat other demigods on his own, Godrick harnesses the might of many to perform on par with them. This is evident in the gameplay, because Godrick is perhaps the most straightforward demigod to take down. Although defeating him won't be simple, the shardbearers that follow him will provide much bigger obstacles.
