Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California, is the largest anime convention in the United States, and convention season has officially begun. Fans are eager to see more of the amazing announcements and news that have already been made before the convention officially begins on July 4, 2024.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is one of the most anticipated new titles that was shown at the convention. It is also, to be honest, one of the most thrilling and, given the nature of fandom trepidation, anxiety producing. The recently released details from Warner Bros. and Sola Entertainment about the upcoming anime feature are extremely stunning, and this project feels like a great fit to the constantly expanding Lord of the Rings series.

The much-anticipated anime movie released a brand-new production still featuring Héra, the main character, in an action shot where she is bravely mounted on a horse and has a concerned expression on her face. "In Japanese [anime], it's not uncommon for a female protagonist to be the main character, but it's more rare in live-action films like The Lord of the Rings," said the film's director, Kenji Kamiyama. Women are fully represented in our picture, which has a strong female protagonist in Héra and a plot told from the perspective of the honorable Tolkien character Éowyn. I hope it will be enjoyed by the many lovers of Tolkien's original works who I believe exist. It has been a wonderful challenge making this movie."

The upcoming film's production team is promising, with Phoebe Grittins and Arty Papageorgiou writing the screenplay and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit films) credited as producer. Following an unexpected assault by Wulf, a crafty and formidable Dunlending lord seeking retribution for the death of his father, Helm and his people are compelled to attempt a valiant “last stand” in the historic stronghold Hornburg, which would subsequently be known as Helm’s Deep. The main character of the movie, Héra, who is Helm's daughter, is forced to command the army in order to repel Wulf and his warriors, who are determined to destroy her people. The film stars Miranda Otto, Brian Cox, Gaia Wise as Héra, and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf. It is presently scheduled for a broad cinema release on December 13, 2024 in the United States.
