What Takes Place in Demon Slayer with Genya?

 Jul 24, 2024

In Demon Slayer, Genya Shinzugawa is put through a great deal, with several severe injuries occurring only in the Swordsmith Village Arc. Granted that she lacks the ability to employ Breathing Styles like the other members of the Demon Slayer Corps, Genya's fortitude and some unexpected other abilities allow her to resist severe physical damage.

But following a particularly terrifying scene in the third season, viewers are now wondering what happens to Genya in Demon Slayer. Spoilers coming, so beware!

What Was the fate of Demon Slayer's Genya?

first seen in Demon Slayer's first season Genya moves up and gains greater prominence in Demon Slayer as a ferocious, haughty counterpoint to Tanjiro. During the Swordsmith Village storyline in Season 3. Genya is almost destroyed in a fight with Hantengu of the Twelve Kizuki, yet he somehow manages to stand. When Genya's eyes adopt the recognizable gold-and-black color scheme of a demon, things get more odd, leading unaware spectators to question what's wrong with him.

In an attempt to be concise, Yes, Genya's ability to withstand Hazenoki until the very end of the fight is entirely due to his Demon-Eater status. Humans who consume the flesh of demons might acquire their traits, such as increased strength and the ability to regenerate, and become known as "demon-eaters." In addition, Genya is an expert in Repetitive Action, a mental technique that lets Demon Slayers withstand pain by mentally repeating a phrase.

With these powers, Genya is able to fight on par with his allies and endure severe physical damage. Genya is exposed to sunlight as a result of assuming the Demon trait, but he is able to evade it long enough to live until Hazenoki is vanquished.

Regretfully, while Genya comes out of the fight with Hazenoki almost intact, things don't work out for him thereafter. This is your last warning about spoilers, in case it wasn't clear previously!

[SPOILER] Does Demon Slayer's Genya Die?

As you may have already surmised, Genya dies later in the series but not in the Swordsmith Village Arc. He lives for a long time until the events of Chapter 179, when he bravely aids in the defeat of Kokushibo, Upper-Rank One, and then sadly dies. One of the most important characters in the whole series, Kokushibo has an intriguing relationship to the Demon Slayer mythos that merits a distinct essay.

Unarguably one of the saddest deaths in the series

But there is a happy ending for Genya. As shown by the time leap in Chapter 205, the manga's last chapter, Genya was reborn in the present day among other important Demon Slayer characters who battled the demons. He also happens to be a police officer. It's unclear whether Genya will suffer the same fate in the anime.
