The Game Awards: Announcement of Every SEGA Remake
Whoa, what a guy! It's exciting time around here. With at least five remakes announced at The Game Awards, it seems like SEGA has revived its love for its own intellectual properties.
Maybe they've chosen to believe in their own skills and have finally realized the potential they've always had. Alternatively, they could have decided to follow the pattern after seeing how well Square-Enix and Capcom did with remakes.
Everything We Know About the Next SEGA Remakes
It should be noted that it's unclear whether any of these games are true remakes. These could be whole remakes of the original games, gentle reboots, or full reboots. The lyrics of the song that was chosen and played during the trailer serve as our sole clue. "Let me reintroduce you," the song's lyrics begin, before unveiling the following games:
Jet Set Radio
SEGAMany people believe that Jet Set Radio was the first game to use cel shading. We first saw this approach in 1999, when SEGA initially showed us their future rollerskating game, which still looks excellent to this day. However, the exact launch date is up for debate. Thankfully, SEGA doesn't seem to be attempting to reinvent the wheel here. Just improve it while maintaining the same general gameplay and graphic design.
Violent Streets
SEGAAxel Stone appears to us in a different light. He wears a brown jacket and has a beard. Therefore, this Axel Stone isn't the same as the one we saw in Streets of Rage 4 or the one we remember from the previous three Streets of Rage games. Is this a reimagining? Is this a follow-up? I want to play it, but I'm not sure.
Shinobi Picture: SEGA
I am quite thrilled that a new Shinobi game is coming out. Though I still want to see Shinobi on the PS2 revisited in some capacity, this classic platformer has so much emotional weight that I think this was the perfect decision. The game seems to offer everything you might want from a contemporary platformer with a fierce ninja, and it looks stunning and graceful.
