Announcement of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered during the E3 Conference
The most anticipated Final Fantasy project to debut at E3 this year is the remake of Final Fantasy VII, about which we have now learnt more details and when it will be released. The reappearance of its original sequel in Final Fantasy VIII, however, was something we definitely weren't expecting, thus Square Enix shocked us all when they revealed Final Fantasy VIII Remaster.
For fans of this underappreciated PlayStation classic, obtaining Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is a big thing, even if it's not a complete remake like Final Fantasy VII. Based on the earlier PC versions, that generation's Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX have recently been ported to a number of other platforms.
Final Fantasy VIII's source code was reportedly compromised, thus it seems logical that the PC improvements would be included to a remaster rather than a straight transfer. However, it is evident that the game is not entirely redone, so don't anticipate the Final Fantasy VII Remake's graphic quality.
It's wonderful to see Final Fantasy VIII finally join the party, especially in light of all the recent Final Fantasy re-releases. This would be a fantastic opportunity for people to test out one of the most unique games at the time, especially with all the changes the series has undergone in recent entries. Who knows, maybe it will reach a whole new audience that hasn't played the game before.
2019 will see the release of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
