Details about Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Soul Stone are Unveiled
Capcom unveiled a new teaser earlier today for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, showcasing the last Infinity Stone: Soul Stone as well as the last characters that will be playable at launch. The trailer didn't completely describe what the hell was truly happening when the stone's varied talents were employed, but the Soul Stone was anything but what the protagonists left up to the imagination.
Fortunately, popular FGC personality Maximilian has had plenty of time to become familiar with the subtleties of the Soul Stone before its official reveal. Based on his time with the Gamescom build of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Maximilian was kind enough to release a video that breaks down everything that the stone can do.
I asked many functions about its effects in a previous article, including how much health players might drain, how much life their revived teammates would return with, and how long they would survive following their resurrection. The film provided answers to many of these queries, but it turns out that the stone is far more complex than the teaser suggested. To be honest, I first believed the stone to be weird, but it turns out to be much more bizarre than I had anticipated.
To begin with, the Infinity Surge works similarly to a whip in that it may be used to partially restore your own life while also draining your opponent's yellow and red health. You won't get much health, and you won't be able to strike someone who is paying attention and isn't prone to pushing buttons at random too often. All in all, it's powerful without being insane.
However, the Infinity Storm is very crazy. I was curious whether my friend would return permanently to full health, and it seems that one of the scenarios I thought about came true: teammates who are knocked out do return forever, but they only fully recover to around 20 percent of their original health.
Interestingly enough, the weirdest aspect of the Soul Stone's Infinity Storm isn't even that. It turns out that the two teammates' simultaneous activity on screen throughout the trailer was not a unique skill related to either dynamic camera work or character; rather, it was another use of the stone's Infinity Storm. Both of the characters will become active on screen to wreck havoc on their opponent, regardless of the reserve teammate's condition. The opponent is put in a very tough predicament since the player is allowed to use any strikes and super combinations that the game permits during this period.
It seems sense that utilizing the stone would have a significant drawback given its potent power, and Max shows that it does. He says that the resurrecting character is left defenseless when the stone's Infinity Storm is activated. Therefore, it is conceivable for the activating player's characters to get caught in a happy birthday (when both characters on a team are struck and then caught in a combination), since the field has no practical effect on either character's powers. Furthermore, it won't take much for the recovering character to be knocked out again since they only have about 20% of their health remaining.
This new knowledge suggests that the Soul Stone has the potential to be very dangerous in the wrong hands. I had assumed that the Reality Stone would be the most used Infinity Stone—at least in the early going of the game—but it seems that the Soul Stone could possibly be used just as often.
