The PS4 PSN ID Name Changes Are Finally Here

 Jul 23, 2024

When it comes to PlayStation platforms—most recently, the PlayStation 4—your PSN ID is your personal identity. On Xbox Live, you may modify your name indefinitely, however this feature is not present on PSN. The option to modify your PSN ID has now been available to all users, as Sony has previously promised. This greatly anticipated function had only been accessible to preview members.

Sony announced this via the official PlayStation Blog, where they also provided comprehensive information on how to modify your PSN ID. You may modify your own name via a web browser or your PS4 as of right now.

Under Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Profile > Online ID on the PS4, you may see this. Click this link to login into your profile if you are using a web browser. After entering, choose PSN Profile and click the edit button next to your name to modify it.

Like Xbox Live, you can alter your name for free the first time, but it will cost you $9.99 to make changes again. If you don't like the new name, however, you may go back to a previous one for free. This implies that you are the only one who may use your previous PSN name. After the first free one, a name change costs only $4.99 for PS Plus subscribers thanks to an additional discount.

It's a useful feature because when you change your name, you can choose to have your old name appear next to your new one for 30 days, letting people know that you've also changed.

Sony had first said that all games released on or after April 1, 2018, but they had also said that they had discovered a situation in which this was not the case. If you are still playing a lot of the games on that list, it's a good idea to examine the link they provided of tested games before making a switch. The following were expressly stated by Sony as possible problems with titles that don't support the update.

  • Your previous Online ID may remain visible to you and other players in some areas.
  • You may lose progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data, and progress towards Trophies.
  • Parts of your game and applications may not function properly both online and offline.
  • You may lose access to content (including paid-for content) that you may have acquired for your games including content like add-ons and virtual currency.

It's excellent that this function, which has been sought the most since the PS3 days, is now available on PSN. Just be careful to study up on it thoroughly before making the move, since there may still be some complications.
