Hands-on Preview: Overwatch 2: Welcome, New and Old Heroes

 Jul 24, 2024
The truth is, I haven't played Overwatch 1. Yes, I did watch the stunning story cinematics and think about which hero I would play as a distance player, but I never actually played any of the Overwatch original games. To be honest, I was a little afraid. I was afraid to play a game that required teamwork with strangers, afraid of the notoriously caustic community, and afraid of failing my team because I didn't know how to perform my part. Furthermore, I was afraid I would fall in love.On October 4, 2022, the seven-year-old video game Overwatch 1 will end. The game that has captured the attention of players all around the world, elevated esports to unprecedented levels, and impacted every hero-based game you enjoy to this day is about to die. And from its ashes, Overwatch 2 will become more popular.. Thus, be afraid of falling in love with Overwatch, regardless of how familiar you are with it. Overwatch 2 is a friendly invitation rather than an intimidating, unapproachable game. Overwatch 2 is a triumphant return of that enduringly captivating first-person shooter that I once dared to adore.

Heroes in the Company of Friends

After participating in the open beta every night, my biggest fear has come true: I now like playing Overwatch.. That doesn't mean, however, that I wasn't nervous as a rookie player. For someone who has never played Overwatch before, there are a plethora of reasons to be concerned. And if I let my team down? What if I choose the incorrect hero? What happens if I don't do a good job in my role?Play with buddies, is what I would advise. Whether you all launch into the game green or your pals have already played Overwatch 1,With friends, Overwatch 2 is enjoyable and forgiving..A buddy or two is fantastic, but You will have an incredible time if you are playing with a complete team of five friends. Rather than obsessing about the optimal reply of the other team's Junker Queen, you are allowed to take chances and try out a few different Heroes throughout the fight. You may easily switch roles with your pals mid-game, depending on the game style, to discover which role and Heroes you like. The pressures, worries, tension, and perspiration that come with playing this competitive game disappear when you are learning how to play with your friends.

My Initial Selections

It's not necessary for me to be the player who does the most damage and gets the most kills. That being said, There are a few Heroes in each character class that I found useful. Tank, Damage, and Support are the three categories that make up the class system, however there are many flexible characters who straddle the boundaries.

The first two characters that I connected with were Mei and Bastion. Large and equipped with a grenade and a Gatling rifle, Bastion is a robot. Because of his enormous health as a Damage Hero, Bastion plays a little like a Tank. Mei, on the other hand, uses her frozen powers to slow down her adversaries and seize control of the battlefield. Although Mei is a Damage Hero as well, she has several Support skills, including as the ability to block opposing teams with her Ice Wall and Blizzard abilities.Every Hero has two or three primary skills, one or two passive powers, one or two weapon damage-dealing choices, and an ultimate. On paper, it can seem a little difficult, but in practice, it's quite easy. Selecting and using any character from the Overwatch 2 roster feels both natural and unique. Even if you won't instantly understand the Hero's complex plans, you will instantly enjoy playing as each character. And there's much more joy to be had in uncovering the deeper tactics of your favorite Hero.

The reason why Damage Heroes are great for Overwatch beginners is because team compositions primarily consist of one Tank, two Damage, and two Support. This makes Damage the simplest and friendliest place to start for Overwatch newcomers. The team's lone tank player must always be at the top of their game, and the supports play a crucial part in keeping their squad healthy.

Try different characters when you're at ease with a few. Try .Try Roadhog, the chain-hooking maniac, Kiriko the new healer, and Moira, the damage-dealing healer. One of the best parts in Overwatch 2 is experimenting.

Overwatch Never Overcomes

I lied as a result. Not only do I like Overwatch 2, but I really enjoy Overwatch 2.The fact that it's challenging to master but really simple to play is what I find most appealing about it. This game has 35 Heroes, and that number is constantly rising! And for some reason, the class system and each one of them separately make them seem really distinct, enjoyable, and well-balanced.First, let's address the balance. I've never played Overwatch 1, thus my only comparison for Overwatch 2's balance is with other live-service first-person shooters where I've seen balancing problems: Apex Legends and Destiny 2.. I like both of these games, so I don't want to disparage them, but Overwatch 2's individual character balance is much superior than those of Apex Legends and Destiny 2. In Overwatch 2, the moment you believe you've uncovered a "broken" character, the other team will switch to your character's counter and begin destroying you. As a result, A harmoniously balanced ecology of Heroes can be found in Overwatch 2. to encourage varied and strategic gaming. What I'm trying to say is that, unlike Apex Legends or Destiny 2, there aren't any must-picks like "Well of Radiance" or "Gibraltar," which is really refreshing. Even though Overwatch 2 has almost perfect balancing, it will never be flawless, and we can credit the class system for bringing a level of structure and flow to the game that gives it a balance that other games lack. After playing Overwatch 2, I think it's a fantastic game. This game is great if you played Overwatch 1. You'll adore this game if you like competitive first-person shooters and have never played Overwatch. Overwatch 2 is a fantastic game, despite a few minor issues like being a touch one-note and being a confusing sequel. You should try Overwatch 2, especially given that it's a live-service, free-to-play game with rotating limited-time modes, weekly challenges, and Battle Pass benefits to earn. Please give it a try with some pals. On October 4, 2022, Overwatch 2 will be accessible for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4.
