 Jul 24, 2024

During a panel discussion at the 2016 Game Developers Conference, Cliff Bleszinski's Boss Key Productions revealed some unexpected information regarding their next multiplayer shooter, LawBreakers. The company has decided to go with a more conventional release instead of a free-to-play business model.

First of all, LawBreakers is moving the game to Steam, among other modifications. According to a developer FAQ posted in the game's community, publisher Nexon and Boss Key decided to go with the well-liked service because it was the "best fit for our community and the competitive game we're building." Additionally, Steam is a fantastic place for scrappier, smaller businesses like ours that don't want to pursue big-box product lines.

The main announcement, however, is that LawBreaker is now a "premium digital title" instead of being a free-to-play game.

The studio said, "As development moved forward, we realized free-to-play is not the right fit for the game we're building." "LawBreakers will not have the $60 price point of a traditional box product, and fans who buy the game will have access to every available role without any barriers," the statement reads. "We're still in very early Alpha and don't have a specific price point or to announce yet."

The primary motivation for the decision seems to be maintaining a competitive balance in the game. It is probable that microtransactions pertaining to cosmetic products will persist.

The game's tone and appearance will also be significantly changed. The game's artwork is also being altered by Boss Key. As to Game Informer, it now The new look hasn't been made public yet. Even the updated Steam page still makes use of the previous year's reveal pictures for Law Breakers .
