Character Trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Soul Stone Released

 Jul 23, 2024

In order to maintain maximum enthusiasm before the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, which is in just a few short weeks, Capcom has revealed the Soul Stone and its fifth character video, which has Firebrand, Jedah, Dormammu, and Ghost Rider in action.

The wait was well worth it as the Soul Stone is the last of the Infinity Stones to be unveiled. This stone is very one-dimensional, yet it nonetheless looks great since it lets players take their opponent's health when they use its Infinity Surge effect, unlike other stones that have unique features. The ability to bring a fallen character back to life using the Soul Stone's Infinity Storm seems to be just as amazing.

Unfortunately, the trailer does a poor job at conveying the subtleties of the Soul Stone, maybe on purpose. We are unable to determine how much health is being depleted or if it impacts the yellow or red health bar since the life bars are obscured. This difference is crucial because, while draining yellow health remains a potent ability, draining red health limits the opponent's capacity to recover health overall when they switch out their character. Likewise, we are not shown how much health a character gains or how long they survive after being brought back to life by the Infinity Storm impact of the stone. The ability to bring a fallen character back to full health is powerful unless the stone's meter takes a very long time to charge in comparison to the others. Although it is probable that the impact would only endure as long as the Infinity Storm, the clip ends before any confirmation of this theory can be made.

Either way, at first appearance, the Soul Stone seems to be rather potent, although a little erratic in its application; a skilled player who makes good use of the life drain effect will most likely have both characters alive and no one else to revive.

In the meanwhile, four demonic characters—Firebrand, Jedah, Dormammu, and Ghost Rider—were featured in the teaser. Jedah is the only one of the four new characters in the series, and we have already seen gameplay of him at Evo 2017. Similarly, anybody who follows this game shouldn't be surprised by Firebrand, Dormammu, and Ghost Rider's involvement given Capcom already stated that they will be appearing at Gamescom 2017.

The seasoned series players all seem to have at least one new move in their repertoires. Dormammu can use his Power of the Creator ability to summon fiery vines along the ground that bring opponents to him and firebrand can create a violent gust of wind that launches opponents into the air. Ghost Rider can execute an attack in which he repeatedly hits an enemy with his chain before stopping the onslaught with a punch.

All things considered, the Soul Stone, Jedah, and the new maneuvers for the veterans all seem quite interesting, but we won't know how they all work out in complete until September.

Sept. 19 marks the release date of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
