Filming for The Last of Us Part II's last scene is almost finished.
One of the last big PS3 exclusives, The Last of Us was out in the summer of 2013 before the PS4 was launched later that same year. With the PS5's arrival approaching—which we learned about earlier today—it seems that the sequel may play a similar role. Although the exact release date of The Last of Us Part II is still unknown, a tweet from one of the game's directors suggests that at least one aspect of the production process is almost finished.
Neil Druckmann, who co-wrote and served as one of the game's two directors in the original, is back for the sequel as creative director. Druckmann is undoubtedly the name in the business that comes to mind when you think of The Last of Us. Therefore, everything he says about the game is worth talking about.
The most recent information from Druckmann was shared on his personal Twitter account, where he shared a picture of the game's last page of the screenplay, as shown below.

The fact that the picture says "The End" essentially indicates that the game's last scenario has been completed. This probably refers to the motion capture procedure with his use of "shot" rather than audio recording, given the nature of the game. The only information the website itself provides is that the game concludes by fading to black.
Although it could seem that filming is over, Naughty Dog may have reshot any sequences or even shot some scenes out of order for the game. But the fact that they completed the last scene suggests that they are now rather well along in the process.
The key unanswered issue is whether The Last of Us Part II will launch in 2019 or wait until 2020 to coincide with the PS4's most probable last song. What a pleasant surprise it would be to get the game later this year, however I think it's definitely the latter, as we experienced with the previous game.
