Release of Gran Turismo 7 is postponed until 2022.
Sony made the announcement of Gran Turismo 7 not long after the new PlayStation 5 system was unveiled in 2017. Although it was anticipated that the game will release in 2021, it now seems unlikely.
Gran Turismo 7 will need to wait until the next year, according to a GQ interview with Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Below is Sony's official comment about the incident.
"Covid-related manufacturing issues have affected GT7, causing it to move from 2021 to 2022. The situation is dynamic and ever-changing due to the continuing epidemic, and during the last several months, numerous important parts of game creation have slowed down. When information on GT7's release date becomes available, we'll let you know.Gran Turismo 6, the final major game in the series, was published for the PlayStation 3 in late 2013. It's odd that the game wasn't a PS4 launch title at the time.
On the other hand, the most recent title in the series was the 2017 PlayStation 4 spin-off Gran Turismo Sport. The absence of several single player game types and material was the primary reason for the game's rough 2017 debut. But when further update patches were made available in the weeks that followed its debut, Gran Turismo Sport improved steadily.
