Premium and Budget Models of the Nintendo Switch Are Supposed to Arrive Later This Year
What a fantastic two years the Nintendo Switch has had, as it just celebrated its second anniversary. Several prominent industry figures have been speculating about significant system updates in the near future, and now one of the most well-connected reporters for Nintendo news has revealed information about when and what we might actually be getting when it comes to new Nintendo Switch versions.
Takashi Mochizuki of The Wall Street Journal is always monitoring Nintendo for any breaking news pertaining to the company's operations. According to his most recent report, there would be two distinct Nintendo Switch models when it comes to the planned updates.
As to his Wall Street Journal report, he has been informed by his sources that Nintendo is planning to release a portable device that is less expensive in addition to a premium model. He continues by saying that the premium model wouldn't be as powerful as, say, the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, which is something we never really anticipated given how weak the current model is in comparison to the PS4 and Xbox One. The true query would be how powerful this upgraded model would be in contrast to the Xbox One and PS4 basic models.
Mochizuki goes on to provide information regarding the less expensive handheld variant that Nintendo is purportedly considering to replace the Nintendo 3DS line. He said that rumbling may be one of the elements that are removed in this edition in order to save expenses. You have to wonder whether this would be a standard Switch with less features that would enable it to be cheaper and fall into the portable market rather than the home console market, or if it would possibly be a portable only system without detachable Joy-Con controllers.
It is anticipated that these two models will be shown at E3, and that they will be released in time for the holidays a few months later. There is little question that Nintendo Switch consoles will see a surge in sales with titles like Pokemon Sword & Shield and the upcoming Animal Crossing, and if this proves out to be true, these versions might really help sell even more.
