Legend of Elden Ring: Who Is Ranni? Questlines, Backstories, and Boss Battles

 Jul 23, 2024

The characters in Elden Ring are mysterious, and many of them need a thorough knowledge of the game to decipher their backstories. Surprisingly, Ranni the snow witch is one of the simpler characters to comprehend, mostly because her questline tells the player directly about her goals and backstory. Her connections to many questlines and other characters throughout the game mean that there are still a lot of riddles to solve concerning her. Even though the mythology surrounding Ranni in Elden Ring isn't very complex, it is perhaps the most extensive of any figure.

Lunar Princess Ranni: Who is she?

Elden Ring Legend

Ranni is a demigod; she was born as the child of Radagon and Rennala. Given her Empyrean birth, she might be Queen Marika's heir apparent in the Lands Between. To commemorate this, the Two Fingers sent her a devoted disciple named Blaidd, with whom she grew up to be great friends with the blacksmith Iji. Ranni became the witch's student when she encountered a strange witch and learnt about the black moon. The demigod would later use this witch's face as a model for her doll body, thus Ranni's look in Elden Ring is not even close to her real one.

As she became older, Ranni realized how much she wanted to be free from the Greater Will's grip so that people may live free from supernatural interference. In order to do this, she hatched a plot with killers who would later be dubbed the Black Knives, giving their weapons the ability to kill demigods by fusing them with remnants of a stolen Great Rune. In the description of the Blasphemous Claw item, it is claimed that she also handed her brother Rykard remnants of this rune. Ranni offered herself as a sacrifice at the Divine Tower of Liurnia, murdering her flesh and leaving a Cursemark of Death, while these assassins slew Godwyn. In addition to relieving her of her Empyrean responsibilities, this incident caused Marika to smash the Elden Ring, which essentially started the game.

After the events of Elden Ring, Ranni hired Seluvis, Blaidd, and Iji to assist her in achieving her objectives. She eventually got to know Torrent's previous boss, which is how she gives the player a Spirit Calling Bell. Though the exact way she and Seluvis originally connected is unclear, it is likely that Rennala and the Carians who live all around Liurnia are the source of their links. She seems to dominate the second part of Rennala's boss fight, which is noteworthy, but it has no effect on her questline or her demeanor toward the player.

She goes by Renna before she meets Ranni in her tower. Though it's indicated that this is more than just an additional name because of Renna's ascension, the significance of this other name is debatable. Given that Ranni was involved in the events leading up to Godwyn's demise, the player may discover her on their own or be led to her via Fia's questline. Ranni assigns the player the duty of locating the Fingerslayer Blade as she starts her questline. She doesn't seem to be connected to it, the Nokron city where it is located, or Radahn, who the player has to defeat in order to get there. Furthermore, she doesn't seem to be connected to Nokstella, where she goes after getting the blade.

Ranni grabs the sword and goes for a unique form of the Two Fingers. Apart from the overseers located in the Roundtable Hold, they seem to be Ranni's personal overseers. But before Ranni can murder them, a Baleful Shadow appears, and she gives the player the mission of killing it. After that, nothing prevents Ranni from murdering the Fingers and accomplishing her objective; as a result, she just lies down to rest on their body. The player may initiate the Age of Stars ending by becoming her consort if they pursue her and get the Dark Moon Ring and kill Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. This fulfills Ranni's goal to live in a world free from gods, bringing the player to embrace the stars and put an end to humanity's reliance on the Elden Ring.

All things considered, Ranni has some of the most complex and profound knowledge of any Elden Ring figure. Even though there isn't a boss encounter with her, the player still has to face a lot of difficult hurdles in order to defeat her. She is connected to Fia's questline, her own unique questline, her followers' questlines, and even the primary conflict that set off the events of Elden Ring. For players who don't utilize magic, completing her aim may not result in many alluring prizes, but those who are interested in the game's plot will probably appreciate learning about Ranni's effect as they go.
