Return of Banjo-Kazooie in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
At Xbox's E3 briefing on Sunday, many were anticipating to see the announcement of a brand-new Banjo-Kazooie game, but they were once again terribly disappointed. Fans of the franchise were left with little hope for the pair's comeback until the E3 Nintendo Direct, but unlike Xbox, they did not let us down when Banjo-Kazooie was unveiled as a future DLC combatant for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Since the first two games in the series were released on the Nintendo 64 before Rare was purchased by Microsoft, Banjo-Kazooie and Rare as a whole have a long history with Nintendo. Since then, all we've received is Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for the Xbox 360.
There have been reports that Cuphead arrived to the Switch because Nintendo and Microsoft were reportedly playing nice behind the scenes, and there have also been whispers that Ori and the Blind Forest are coming.
All of this culminated in the video for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's third DLC character, which debuted remarkably similarly to last year's King K. Rool reveal, towards the conclusion of the E3 Nintendo Direct. They teased us with King Dedede in that revelation before revealing King K. Rool. Instead, we get Duck Hunt making fun of us, but later on, it turns out that Banjo-Kazooie is a real character in the game.
The pair plays well together, stealing techniques from earlier games. The graphic design is reminiscent to the vintage games rather than the garish Nuts & Bolts adaptation. Additionally, Banjo-Kazooie will have a Spiral Mountain level, which seems to be a lot of fun.
In the fall of 2019, Banjo-Kazooie will make an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
